The Rega Apheta 3 is a reference-level Moving Coil cartridge, the result of over 15 years of development in MC technology. It is designed for those who want to hear everything possible from vinyl – the nuances, dynamic energy, and the natural depth of the music.
The Apheta 3 utilizes a fine-line nude diamond stylus, cut at a 90-degree angle using the same manufacturing process as Rega's flagship Aphelion model. This highly precise stylus provides a wide contact area with the groove walls, reducing distortion and revealing musical details from the outer edge of the record to the inner grooves.
At the heart of the cartridge is an iron micro cross structure, half the size of the original Apheta model. This enables an extremely lightweight and fast structure, where the hand-wound generator responds to even the slightest movements in the record groove. Only 0.018 mm thick copper wire is used in the coil manufacturing. Together with a very powerful neodymium magnet, this produces a strong, balanced, and astonishingly quiet signal.
The body is made from a single piece of CNC-machined, anodized aluminum, ensuring rigidity and minimizing resonances. The delicate internal components are protected by a smoke-colored rigid cover.
Sonically, the Apheta 3 offers a tight and controlled bass, a transparent and precise midrange, and a clear and open high end. The Apheta 3 is available as a factory-installed option on the Rega Planar 8 and Planar 10 models.
What Hi-Fi? awarded the Planar 10 & Apheta 3 combination five stars: “Detailed and rhythmically dynamic.” Stereophile: “The best Rega cartridge I’ve heard – sweetly accomplished and detailed.” Hi-Fi Choice called it "a true star in its test conditions."
