The Rega Planar 8 is inspired by the Rega Naiad reference player and is built entirely on the same design principles: a structure that is as lightweight as possible, yet extremely rigid, minimizing resonances and maximizing detail reproduction. This turntable is designed for uncompromising vinyl enthusiasts who want to hear every tone, rhythm, and nuance exactly as it was etched onto the record.

Visually, the Planar 8 is bold and modern – the lightness of the plinth is both an aesthetic and acoustic advantage. The player comes with a rigid Tancast foam core plinth, a triple-layer glass platter, an advanced RB880 tonearm, and a Neo PSU MK2 power supply, which provides precise electronic speed control and motor power delivery.

A one-piece, machined aluminum sub-platter and a hardened tool steel spindle rotate in a custom-made brass housing, which is cleverly embedded in the plinth structure. This new bearing assembly is designed to prevent unwanted energy transfer or storage within the player's plinth.

The Planar 8 now comes standard with the newly designed NEO MK2 power supply. A new matte white finish is available from April 2023 – the white Planar 8 will be supplied with a clear dust cover and a clear triple-layer float glass platter.
