QED XT3
The XT3 power cable is a very affordable upgrade for any hi-fi device or even an active subwoofer that uses a traditional removable power cable.
The XT3 utilizes QED's award-winning and acclaimed X-Tube technology, proven effective through measurements in speaker cables, and applies it to the specific requirements of mains power cables.
Based on research and world-class engineering, QED has created a groundbreaking power cable that ensures a clean and stable power supply to audio equipment, allowing them to unleash their full potential. As a significant player in the creation of the first specialized speaker cables, and with over 47 years of expertise, no other company has demonstrated such long-standing dedication in the field of signal transmission.
QED knows well that the mains power supplied to hi-fi equipment can profoundly affect performance. As with any QED cable, meticulous attention has been paid to the materials and geometry of the XT3. QED has aimed to minimize the 'proximity effect,' which degrades signal transmission, where current density concentrates in conductors closest to the outer edge. QED has applied its esteemed X-Tube technology, originally developed for its award-winning range of speaker cables. The ferrite jacket, on the other hand, effectively counteracts potential interference from entering or leaving the cable. The XT3 is measurably superior to traditional cables supplied with devices in many ways, and the difference becomes audibly greater with good equipment. Tests have shown that even the hum of a hi-fi device's power supply can be reduced, which can have various effects on the device's performance as vibration and noise levels decrease.
X-Tube Technology
The braided individual cores of the live and neutral conductors are made small enough to resist eddy currents from adjacent cores, thus not contributing to the 'proximity effect.' Carefully calculated helicity of individual strands ensures that no two conductors run parallel for more than a few millimeters, promoting uniform current flow at all frequencies. Separate bundles are insulated using K130 PVC material (to stabilize current capacitance and exceed international safety standards), and the cable's inductance is controlled by giving the entire assembly a hollow LDPE core.
Practicality
The XT3 is designed to be as flexible and practical as possible. Only the live and neutral cores have been given the X-Tube treatment described above. The earth core (required only in fault conditions) has been left to a conventional implementation. And because the X-Tube geometry allows the cable's total cross-sectional area to be kept more compact at 1.5 square millimeters, the XT3 is very flexible and reasonably thin despite its audiophile quality.
Listen
The XT3's numerous technological details offer amazing value for money. The easiest way to understand what we mean is to hear the improvement yourself in practice – we are convinced that you will prefer it over alternative power cables in this price range.
