Based on proprietary DIDRC circuit technology, the P-80 preamplifier produces a nuanced, yet smooth and pleasing sound from all music sources.

DIDRC is a discrete signal control circuit developed to make digital audio sources – such as CDs and music streaming services – sound as pleasant as analog records.
This technology has been further developed, and the P-80 utilizes it in both the analog filter of the DAC and the phono preamplifier circuits.

Three RCA line inputs, MM/MC phono, coaxial and optical connections, USB-A (for playback of storage devices), and a headphone jack provide all the flexibility your music equipment needs to move you.

The preamplifier receives the output signal from your music source and applies tone control adjustments to it. You get more precise control over sound reproduction for bass, treble, volume, and other settings.

With Fidelity IQ (Auto Loudness function) enabled, the system automatically optimizes playback to any volume level according to the main volume. (This function operates independently of tone controls and can be used in conjunction with them. Parameters are generated for the listening environment during initial setup using a microphone.)

However, Fidelity IQ does more than just volume correction. Onkyo's sound masters and engineers fine-tune the frequency response to offer the most emotional and impactful sound, regardless of music style.

Choose your program source, adjust settings to your liking – which may vary depending on the speakers you use, the content being played, the music genre, and many other factors – and customize the listening experience to suit you perfectly. The P-80's user interface is designed to be clear and intuitive.

Frequency response correction (500 Hz–20 kHz / full version available as an option), multiple playback modes, and many other features elevate your listening experience to a new level by taking into account your specific system and listening space.

The P-80 also supports Dirac Live Bass Control (DLBC is an optional extra). It features two independent subwoofer outputs, maximizing the effect of DLBC.
