Onkyo M-80 Power Amplifier
The Onkyo M-80 power amplifier utilizes a three-stage inverted Darlington amplifier. This design achieves an extremely low output impedance and can drive speakers with high currents extremely effectively. By keeping NFB (negative feedback) very low, the amplifier is not sensitive to additional noise produced by the speakers, resulting in a powerful yet highly detailed and informative sound.
The output stage transistors of the M-80 are connected in parallel, providing excellent instantaneous current delivery capability. This improves the rise of transients and adds a sense of power to the listening experience.
The M-80's drive stage uses DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) technology. This reduces noise at very high frequencies, and thanks to DIDRC's high switching speed, the amplifier reproduces the natural, pure sound of analog audio recordings.
Top-tier components – immersive reproduction
The Onkyo M-80 power amplifier features a custom-made, high-current power supply that enables dynamic, full-frequency sound. The extruded aluminum heatsink effectively dampens vibrations. In addition, the M-80 utilizes high-quality 10,000 uF capacitors manufactured exclusively for Onkyo, Hi-Fi grade connectors (both speaker and input terminals), copper busbars, and a sturdy anti-vibration panel, all of which contribute to powerful, world-class reproduction.
The chassis consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. This three-part structure increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance, together ensuring better sound quality.
Create your perfect setup
The M-80 amplifier has an output power of 130 W (FTC, 8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, THD 0.08 %, 2 channels driven) / 200 W (4 Ω, 1 kHz, THD 0.7 %, 2 channels driven), which enables efficient driving of large speakers and the transmission of rich acoustic details. For example, Klipsch Forte speakers paired with P-80 and M-80 units maximize the dynamic and expansive sound performance of the Forte.
According to Onkyo Academy: Benefits of a power amplifier
A power amplifier receives the signal from the preamplifier and literally feeds it to your speakers. Think of the preamplifier as the brain and the power amplifier as the muscle. By separating amplifiers into a preamplifier and a power amplifier, you gain maximum flexibility in sound reproduction. Furthermore, because they do not affect each other's circuits, they can provide high-resolution sound quality due to even cleaner signal transmission.
Audiophiles are known to favor certain power amplifiers for their sound quality and tonal characteristics. The M-80 is a power amplifier that reproduces the full artistic dimension of music and transports you into a world of emotions.
