The bass reproduction of the Monitor Audio Platinum 100 3G has surprising authority for a compact bookshelf speaker. The bass is dynamic and tight, and the speaker is not afraid of even slightly higher volumes. The mid-range is reproduced cleanly, offering an excellent cross-section in the most sensitive hearing range for the human ear; vocalists' tones are reproduced tangibly authentically and with presence. The Platinum 100 3G utilizes the RDT III bass/mid-range driver and MPD III tweeter developed for the series. These drivers represent the absolute top of the market in terms of their features and performance.

RDT III is a composite material that offers an extremely rigid and light cone. Compared to the previous generation RDT II drivers, the distortion values of the new RDT III driver have decreased even further, while the driver's sensitivity and power handling have increased. RDT III is a cone formed by a honeycomb-shaped carbon fiber frame and a C-CAM metal alloy sprayed onto the surface, which functions optimally like a piston. The light and rigid structure enables dynamic, fast, and distortion-free reproduction even when using high volumes.

The mass of the MPD III tweeter is a fraction of the mass of a traditional dome tweeter. Despite this, it also has a significantly larger functional surface area (about 8x larger than a traditional one-inch dome). The tweeter's reproduction extends up to 60kHz, and all negative coloration of reproduction has been pushed far above the human hearing threshold. The shape of the tweeter, combined with the waveguide fitted in front of it, ensures a consistent dispersion pattern and excellent integration with the speaker's bass/mid-range driver. Due to its large functional surface area, the MPD III tweeter is also capable of producing high sound pressure levels without compression and high distortion.

The Platinum series speakers utilize a multi-layered and heavily braced cabinet structure, which achieves an excellent rigid and acoustically dead cabinet. When cabinet vibrations do not color the reproduced signal, the result is more faithful to the recording. Despite its relatively compact size, the Monitor Audio Platinum 100 3G weighs 15.2kg per piece.
