The Grado GS1000x is the latest evolution of a headphone that has deservedly been in Grado's lineup for over two decades. For the first time ever, the Grado GS1000x combines mahogany with exotic ipê wood in its construction, which works wonderfully with mahogany both acoustically and structurally: mahogany brings a considered warmth to the sound, and ipê acts as a solid foundation for any sound passing through its grains.

 

The GS1000x's distinctive, nuanced soundstage is thanks to the combination of its 50mm headphone driver, massive ear cushions, and large enclosure design. The new 50mm X Driver is specifically tuned to bring out the warm sound of mahogany. The driver features a more powerful magnetic circuit than before, a lighter voice coil, and a redesigned diaphragm. As a result, the headphone offers better efficiency, less distortion, and better preservation of the music's harmonic integrity.

 

Other improvements have also been made: the headphone cable has been given a more flexible fabric coating instead of plastic, and the interior has been updated to super-annealed 12-conductor copper for cleaner sound. The new leather headband is embroidered with white stitching.
